« a love letter to The Shirelles | Main | first musical treat is up! »

Okay so you don't like "soldier boy". But most of the songs of the time had some silly lyrics, they were writing for kids. But "Soldier boy" struck a strong chord because the draft board quotas had gone up and tons of high school girls had boyfriends in the military. So even if it's far from my favorite Shirelles song I have many memories of teary eyed girls in my high school singing that song in the hallway...TIM

yep, I get that....though when it was first a hit I don't
think the draft numbers were up yet...but probably that
had impact on why it was an enduring favorite...
re: silly lyrics, yes a lot of songs had silly lyrics back then but what was notable about the Shirelles is how many of their songs had mature lyrics
